It is no secret that the US and world economy have been performing poorly, especially over the last several months.
Many people react irrationally to a down economy and cause further problems without even realizing it. They immediately cease spending money as soon as they hear that the economy is heading in a downward trend. Keeping a reasonable amount of money saved is a good strategy, but…. If people stop doing many of the things that they normally do: eat out, go to the salon, visit the day spa, purchase new clothing, etc., even if you can afford to do it, it can create greater pressure on others. If you are not spending money in those places (and you have it to spend), you should realize that all of the businesses and the people that work at those businesses depend on people spending money – that is what keeps an economy going.
People are economically self-centered in both good and bad times. In bad times, if you choose to not go to the salon, make purchases or defer them, or cease to eat out you have a hand in increasing economic problems if you are still in healthy fiscal shape. Spend responsibly and buy the things that you need and even things you want from the businesses that you like, which treat you well, and have helped you in good times and bad. Do not cower in irrational fear simply because you are told to be afraid of the economy, especially if you are not actually hurting. If you have not lost your job or are not suffering from the poor economy to cease following your normal routine only creates a greater overall economic problem.
